In corresponding this morning with someone who’s work I deeply admire, I managed to make a horrifyingly embarassing basic error of calculation, about which I am properly mortified. Steeling my reserve, however, I figured "no pain, no gain" and that I might as well get a blog post out of it.
So here, for your pleasure, are two charts showing the natural log of NGDP-per-worker and RGDP-per-worker in the US since 1952, respectively:
